I met Doris's son Bryan at Sunset High School almost 50 years ago, and Doris soon afterwards. She was from the south, like my own mother, though she skipped over Texas to land in Albuquerque. Not sure why she tolerated me around her son, but she was gracious to his friends, and tolerated our many adventures, such as a bicycle trip to central Oregon in the middle of August. I went to Oregon State and Berkeley, Bryan went to Portland State for a while, then got his real education from some of the world's best musicians. Bryan's children did not pursue music, but his granddaughter Keira may, and follow in her great-grandmother's musical footsteps (though not the "feed 30 unannounced guests" footsteps imposed by Bryan's biological father).
Over the years, Christmas at the Snyders demonstrated that Doris could still feed and entertain a house full of family and friends. Once per year, on her terms, with Andrew's able help. Now it is our turn to help Andrew through these times, and help with Christmas 2017.
I never heard Doris play cello; one of my regrets. If someone has a recording of one of her performances, I hope they can send me a digitized version (or send a tape to Bryan, and he can digitize it for us) and I will put it on this website.
