She graduated from Loyola University in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in music, intending to become a professional cellist, and took up a position with the New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. It was there that she met her husband to be, Norman Russell Bell, who was conducting the orchestra. He was a nationally known conductor and composer and had worked with the Robert Shaw Chorale, the Fred Waring Workshop, had been the music director and production director for a television station in New Orleans, and choral director at Xavier University in New Orleans. They married and had their first son in 1950. Norman passed away in 1981 and Doris married a family friend, Andrew Snyder, who had been serving as an intelligence officer attached to the US Defense Atomic Support Agency in Albuquerque and moved to Portland, Oregon. In Portland, Doris joined the St. Vincent Hospital Guild where she volunteered her time for 15 years. In 1989, she was diagnosed with cancer and was given six months to live, but she proved the doctors wrong and lived to see the birth of two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. While her family always remained the focus of her life, she enjoyed traveling, attending live theatre and, of course, listening to classical music performances.<
><
> She is survived by her husband, Andrew Snyder; sons Kenneth, Bryan, and Clifford Bell; grandchildren, Lindsay, Christina and Andrea Bell, and Izabel Morgan-Bell; and a great-granddaughter, Keira Bell.<
><
>A memorial services were held to honor her life on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at the [[http://chucc.org | Cedar Hills United Church of Christ]], 11695 SW Park Way, Portland, Oregon 97225. || | ||{{attachment:DorisSnyder.png}}<
><
>'''November 13, 1929 – August 26, 2017'''<
><
>{{ attachment:Doris_Obit_fixed.jpg | | width=350 }}<
><
><
><
>DorisFriendsAndFamily<
>where you can enter your personal memories.|| Doris Lynn Boone Snyder passed peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at her home of 49 years, as she had hoped to do.
